Development Plans
Why do we need to undertake this development:
- We have a growing population in Enniscorthy that need new and improved sporting and recreational facilities and services
- There is a demand in the community for a safe space for people to meet, walk and run
- We have a growing GAA playing population, particularly with the huge increase in female participation
- With only one full sized pitch up to playing standard, our playing facilities are now at full capacity during the core season with club, county, inter-county and schools games, and will not be enough to support the growing number of games going forward
- With this increase in games, we will need greater access to playing facilities throughout the year and our pitches in particular need to be able to withstand adverse weather conditions
- We also want to improve Bellefield as a venue for club championship and inter-county games
- With only limited training facilities on site, over recent years the club has had to rely on the generosity of Wexford GAA (St Patrick’s Park & Ferns Centre of Excellence), the Showgrounds and the Vocational College to help accommodate team training and games
- Players have only had access an outdated and limited hurling wall on site, resulting in teams having to compete for training slots in the CBS and other indoor facilities. A new, lighted hurling wall and all-weather area will greatly help coaches facilitate off-season training
- It is the ambition of the club to become even more of a recreational hub for all of the community, where the addition of a coffee dock, sensory garden, walking track and youth club will offer a safe, monitored and welcoming environment and meeting space for everyone
- By providing these resources, services and facilities for members and the wider community to engage in enjoyable physical and social activities, the physical and mental health and wellness of our community will be greatly improved
- We want our facilities to be more inclusive, for example by providing better viewing facilities for wheelchair users
